This is the house of home, of family, your psychological roots.
The fourth house, along with the tenth house, is supposed to speak about your parents, and your relationship with them. In my experience, I have seen the each house represent each parent, for different people. A hard and fast rule about houses and people seems elusive.
One theory is that the fourth house shares the same gender as the child. That is certainly true in my case.
Other people say the fourth house shows the parent who has the greater influence on you as a child. That is also true in my case.
Every once and a while there are discussion in alt.astrology about this. Its an issue that doesn't seem to be going away soon. It seems each person develops their own answer to the question.
