kailua beach wedding

Musicians Adrienne and Dan were married in the Bay Area, California, in early August. They had another ceremony to for Adrienne's Hawaiian relatives later that month. Jane and I visited Hawai'i for the first time for their beachside consecration.

A Hawaiian chanter - something appropriately local and vowel-laden, filling the ceremony with sweeping deep pagan tones just before the Episcipalian priest stepped in to speak of their union reflecting the spirit of the devine.

Jason the photographer - he uses an old school film camera with black and white film even. Jason has no mobile phone (he can mooch off of all the other mobile phone-carrying people in emergencies, he suggests, and resisting convenience is a nice way to select hardships to complement a life that's already busy enough).

Adrienne and Dan stand married, wearing many leis including one festooned with elaborately folded dollar bills. Brother Terry smiles to their right.
Adrienne and Dan form the permanent part of the band Secadora. You can listen to some of their music online: Epitonic: Secadora (I like the songs Gelato, Electric Third Rail - high speed, and Goodness, more laid back, pleasant. Or buy their albums from Keiki records; Keiki means children in Hawaiian.
